Subject: Item 9 Public Comment: Establish a permanent pedestrianized Hayes Street
SFMTA Board:

On November 7, 2023, the Board approved item 10.5, resolution 231107-090, to "study a potential permanent street closure of Hayes Street and report back to the Board within six months".

We are now halfway through that 6 month period. I'm writing to reaffirm support for a 24/7 pedestrianized Hayes Street. This aligns with San Francisco's Transit First, Climate Action, and Vision Zero goals.

Other cities are outpacing San Francisco in pedestrianization, not only global leaders like Barcelona, Copenhagen, and Paris, but our neighbors including Mountain View, Palo Alto, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Jose, San Mateo, and Sunnyvale:

Please establish a permanent pedestrianized Hayes Street, and reaffirm San Francisco as a global leader in mobility, climate policy, and pedestrian safety.

Thank you for your time.

On November 7, 2023, the SFMTA Board committed to studying a permanent pedestrianized Hayes Street over 6 months. We are exactly 3 months into that process. This coming Tuesday, February 6, 2024, let the SFMTA Board know our community is committed to a permanent pedestrianized Hayes Street.

Please provide public comment at this SFMTA Board Meeting in person if you are able, or via email if you are not. Let the SFMTA Board our streets belong to all of us!
